This is a blog detailing the Polar Circle Marathon & Half Marathon in October of 2015.
1. Running the Polar Circle
2. Gear
3. Nutrition
Training for this event was strange, given that it was unseasonably hot late into the year in Florida. It never got below 80 degrees during my training, and was around 90 for most of it. I had to run in the middle of the night or early morning just to realistically be able to complete my long runs with any sort of pace. I wasn’t focused so much on how it would be cold in Greenland, but just being able to train period with it being so warm and humid. I had hernia surgery back in May and hadn’t trained like this since before my injury, making this a big step up since I wanted to run my first “real” marathon with some decent training put into it.
Training woes aside, this ended up being one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. The friendships I made during this race event were some that I will cherish for a long time, and I would recommend this for any traveling runner that welcomes the challenges of running in the arctic. Just finishing this event is a test of true merit, and the bonds you will make before, during, and after, are worth the world wide trek some of you will make to get to the starting line.
Good luck, and if you have any questions please feel free to post a comment or send me a message
