This is a blog detailing how I was able to complete the Keys 100 ultra marathon in May of 2014.

If you are attempting the Keys 100 or if this is your first 100 mile race, you may find some of this information helpful. I went down to the Keys just trying to finish the 100 miles, and there were plenty of unknowns involved that made finishing the race no sure thing whatsoever. I had only run 50 miles once, and that was a year and a half before running the Keys 100. Plus, I injured my IT band during that 50 mile race so I had never even made it half the distance without running into problems. Nevertheless, I had just enough time to prepare and train for this event and by paying attention to every minute detail I was able to pull this off. For ultra marathon runners that are not in the elite category, and have never ran 100 before, this will be your ultimate test. Going into it as prepared as possible, as well as mentally tough enough to accept the challenges thrown your way that you didn’t prepare for, is what will get you to the finish line. Read through these write ups and if you have any other questions, comment on the pages or just shoot me an email at udubc5@u.washington.edu.
I will list every scrap of gear & clothing I wore during the race, everything I consumed and when, and go over as much of the course as possible.
